Since it's my first blog entry, I decided to put something fun and rather artsy on the page (hopefully it will make my page look better...). This is a collage we had to make for my Consumer Psychology class. Although, I think this class is rather irrelevant to what I want (and probably should...) study, I still put considerate amount of time in making this. But I don't know if it was worth it, because my professor didnt even have a look at them. It turned out that they were needed just for some graduate student doing her research on how fatigue influences consumer buying decisions. I was quite unhappy to hear that, since that meant that all the text I wrote was meaningless (its purpose was merely to disguise us, so we wouldnt understand the real purpose of the study, and therefore, wouldnt cause any sort of bias).
When I think about this collage now, I realize how spontanic this work was. One should probably know of what he wants to show before he does this kind of work. Well, I sincerely had no clue what I want to convey until I collected all the pictures from the Internet, and put them into this collage. Only afterwards I created this description:
"I made this collage thinking about what it really means to me to experience fatigue. And the more I though, the more I realized that it is not physical fatigue which is the most important in my everyday life. It is rather a mental or psychological one which is the hardest to notice and to cope with.
For me mental fatigue is a synonym of such words as responsibility, demand, attention and expectation. Everyday I meet people who expect me do something, who demand to take responsibility on things, and to pay attention to details. Eventually it becomes the daily monotonic routine I have to overcome to satisfy the needs of others.
But fatigue is locked in a vicious cycle of self-reproduction. Every time I have to deal with responsibility I have to make choices: Which duties should I do first? Who should I defend, and who should I judge? Who is right, and who is wrong? Should I take any action? What are the consequences if I dont? These questions continue endlessly, creating an overwhelming and oppressive surrounding.
In my collage I chose black and white colors in order to magnify the heaviness and difficulty of the mental fatigue. I also collaged the pictures of people from different generations in order to reflect the complexity of responsibilities and demands involved in fatigue creation process. By looking carefully you can notice that the white part of the paper forms a question mark, which reflects the idea of fatigue taking a form of a philosophical or even excessive questioning. The rest is left for an open interpretation."
